Welcome to SAIPedralba

SAIPedralba : Report of 3rd Annual General Meeting held on Wednesday, 4th April 2012

The third Annual General Meeting was held in the Casa de Cultura, Pedralba.

The Meeting was attended by 24 people, with four apologies.

The Minutes of the 2nd Annual General Meeting, which was held on 13th April 2011, have been circulated, read and accepted as a true and accurate record.  There were no matters arising.

SAIPedralba's bank account was opened on 27th September 2011, and a "Statement of Accounts at 31st March 2012" was provided by Treasurer, Denise Sanders.  Joan Bellamy and Les Elford have spent a lot of time checking the accounts and ensuring that they are correct;  they have confirmed that they are happy to continue as SAIPedralba's Auditors.

As we are properly registered, the actual Officers of the Society do not need to be re-elected every year, but the actual Vocales put themselves up for election and that was managed by Bryon Simpson (Electoral Officer).

Pam Simpson is to liaise the Jubilee Garden Party, which is to be held on Sunday, 3rd June 2012

Isabel Farga and Noelia in the Ayuntamiento have both indicated that they are happy to liaise with SAIPedralba - this is a very valuable asset.

The Priest, Fdo Francisco de Borja Garcia Ayuda has agreed to be an Honorary Member.

It was agreed that the Membership subscription fee should remain at €10 per family, and Members were reminded that it is now time to renew their membership.

The website has at last been updated with some new pages, which we hope will be useful.  Please do let us know of anything going on in the area so that we can circulate the information.

The AGM was followed by a superb talk on Photography by Nigel Winter - in his Presentation, Nigel spoke about practical aspects of Photography, having been involved with it for over 50 years, including time as Photographic Society Secretary when at Uni;  Chairman of Folkestone Camera Club and Folkestone International Audio-Visual Festival and founder of Format.  He sat on CAPS and was a County Standard Judge (Kent) for photographic competitions.  Nigel spoke briefly about well known photographers he has met and different philosophies of what makes a good photo.  He addressed the issue of film -v- digital and then gave some hints on how we can all improve our pictures.  Nigel concluded by showing some of his old work using an ancient projector, and some more recent images, before answering Members' questions.

SAIPedralba Monthly Meeting - Thursday, 8th March 2012

Subject: "Las Fallas"

SAIPedralba would like to extend a huge thank you to Encarna Gomez (and her colleague, Natalia) for their wonderful presentation relating to "Las Fallas".  Each year, Valencia City celebrates the final days of the winter and the arrival of spring with spectacular fires and pyrotechnics from 15th to 19th March (the Feast of St Joseph, day of the father in the whole country).  Valencia is given over to a carnival of bonfires, fiesta, fireworks and a healthy dose of satire known as 'Las Fallas' (The Fires).

SAIPedralba Monthly Meeting : February 2012 - Guest Speakers : Daniel Herranz and Pedro Monsonis from Lex Consilium

Following on from SAIPedralba's February meeting, which was held at the Casa de Cultura on Wednesday 1st February 2012, please find below a brief resume:

Guest Speakers : Daniel Herranz and Pedro Monsonis from Lex Consilium, Valencia.

Lex Consilium is a firm of bilingual lawyers and economists, with extensive expertise in conveyancing, residency, inheritance, will, tax and employment issues encountered by English speaking people in Spain.

Over thirty-five members attended a very successful and informative meeting given by Daniel and his colleague, Pedro, on various legal matters:

- Spanish Wills : Daniel stressed how important it is that anybody who owns a property and is living in Spain makes a Spanish will and that they become a tax resident.

- New Government Tax Changes : Daniel informed SAIPedralba members that there have been several Government tax changes recently and gave an insight into these, again stressing how beneficial it is to become a tax resident in Spain, particularly when selling your property.

- New Spanish Income Tax Law : Again, Daniel advised SAIPedralba members of the benefits of becoming tax residents in order to prevent paying high income tax rates, inheritance tax, etc.

President's Report December 2011

I have yet to discover quite where time goes!  This year has passed so quickly and been very eventful for the Society, the Town and personally.

And on a personal note I would like to take this opportunity to record my thanks to everyone who has been so supportive during a difficult time for our family.
